The Valle de Mena, in northern Burgos, spans 861 metres between the lowest and highest stations in the network: from 229 m at Nava de Ordunte to 1090 m at Cilieza. With that spread, a regional forecast decides nothing concrete — neither when it freezes up top nor how much rain actually fell down below.
The network is 7 stations across 7 villages —Nava de Ordunte, Hornes, Sopeñano, Ribota de Ordunte, Cilieza, Artieta and Villasana de Mena—, each reporting every 15 minutes, plus 6 landscape cameras at 4 of those sites.
It was not installed in one go: 5 stations in June 2025 and 2 in October 2025. Growing in stages is normal when a public body pays for the observatory, and the design takes it without reworking anything.
The data does not stay on an internal dashboard. The platform publishes it live, with daily, monthly and yearly series, quality filters that discard impossible readings before aggregating them, and valley-wide records. Anyone can consult it.
